+# Git Basics 
+### Create a new repository 
+
+    $ touch README.md
+    $ git init
+    $ git add README.md
+    $ git commit -m "first commit"

+### Getting project from a repository
+
+    $ git clone https://github.com/example/rhymes.git

+### Tracking New Files
+Add file contents to the index.
+

+Show the working tree status.

+Record changes to the repository.

+To create a new branch

+### Merging branches
+Before using "git merge", make sure the correct local branch is checked out.

+
+* checkout master branch
+> $git checkout master
+
+* merge branches

+* Rewrite your master branch so that any commits of yours that aren't already in upstream/master are replayed on top of that other branch
+> $git rebase upstream/master
+
+* Push your forked master, need to use '-f' for first time push
+> $git push -f origin master
+
+## Create Patch From Diff
+> $git diff > mypatch.patch
+> $git apply mypatch.patch
+
